This course is applicable to personnel who are required to participate in an emergency evacuation or rescue using, or assisting others to use, a pre rigged CDD (Controlled Descent Device) or EDD (Emergency Descent Device) rescue kit, or for those required to supervise, manage, or provide safety role support to those workers. 

Training is contextualised for evacuation in an emergency from structures such as OET cranes, ore, grain or coal loaders, travelling gantry cranes, fixed position cranes or structures such as bulk material storage bins or silos. Each scenario is given individual consideration and risk assessed for the optimum solution.

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 4 Hours

An individual undertaking this course will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry: 

● Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills  

● Capable of working under supervision in a team while being physically able to complete individual tasks relating to conducting a first response evacuation / rescue operation, in a range of scenarios

Practical assessments

Performance Tasks – Prepare for, undertake & complete evacuation / emergency descent using pre rigged kit

Recognises, selects, correctly sets up and nominates maintenance requirements for nominated kit

Identifies and follows a documented evacuation rescue procedure

 Engages in a team safety meeting to plan the evacuation / rescue scenario

Nominates local team and site safety personnel / rescue team leaders / external rescue & emergency services

Communicates understanding of signs of operational stress in self and others

Nominates appropriate risk controls for identified hazards and uses risk controls in evacuation / rescue scenario

Responds to internal & external situational cues before, during & after evacuation / rescue scenario

Contributes as part of a rescue team to recover and move to safety an incapacitated worker / mannequin in evacuation/  rescue scenario(s) 

 Applies basic casualty management & movement as part of first responder rescue team

Uses spoken communication to effectively communicate before, during & after evacuation / rescue scenario

Participates & contributes to an evacuation /  rescue scenario debrief and completes incident report 

Written assessments

Uses a documented evacuation / rescue plan and completes an incident report
