This heavy vehicle recovery and towing course provides training to safely recover and tow disabled heavy vehiclesThis includes assessing the recovery site, preparing the recovery vehicle and the vehicle being recovered,  recovery strap equipment, and completing the recovery operation. The course also covers relevant legislation, safety procedures, and the use of specialized equipment, including soft slings and shackles.

  • Legislation and Regulations:
    Participants will learn about relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards related to heavy vehicle recovery and towing.
  • Preparation and Planning:
    This includes identifying the work requirements, assessing the recovery site, and planning the recovery strategy. 

  • Equipment and Vehicle Preparation:
    Participants learn how to prepare the recovery vehicle and the disabled vehicle for the recovery operation. This includes understanding the capabilities and limitations of different types of recovery equipment. 

  • Winching and Towing Operations:
    The course covers the safe and efficient use of winches and towing equipment, including proper rigging techniques and load management. 

  • Safety Procedures:
    Emphasis is placed on safety throughout the entire recovery process, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), risk assessment, exclusion zones, dampeners and emergency procedures. 

  • Communication and Teamwork:
    Effective communication is crucial during a recovery operation, and the course will cover how to communicate effectively with team members and other personnel involved in the operation. 


    Finalising the Recovery:
    This includes unhooking the disabled vehicle, finalising paperwork, and ensuring the worksite is left in a safe condition.
